Tracing their history back to 1917’s 35th Pursuit Squadron, the Panton’s headed for the Pacific region in 1942 and have never left. Since 1971, they and their 80 FS compadres have called Kunsan AB in Korea home. They transitioned from the F-4 to the Viper in 1981 and to the “late block” CG in 2000.
89-2055 is shown ready for a surface attack sortie with a pair of GBU-31 JDAM 2000 lb bombs on stations 3/7 and 2 x AIM-120D’s and 2 x AIM-9x-I missiles for self-escort, a Sniper XT pod on chin station 5B for target acquisition, and a centerline mounted AN/ALQ-184 long pod for electronic protection. To get there and back she carries a pair of 370 gallon wing tanks. Internally, as always, a full load of PGU-28 20mm rounds and chaff and flare expendables complete the load.
