88-494 is a 36 FS “Flying Fiends” Block 40 F-16CG ready for a BFM sortie. The “Fiends” have flow from Osan AB in South Korea since 1974, first operating F-4’s then, in 1988, transitioning to the F-16. In 1990, they received Block 40 Vipers with LANTIRN precision guided weapon capability and night low level navigation capability.

Basic Fighter Maneuvering- BFM for short – is a bread and butter mission for every USAF fighter squadron. Whether flow from a low or high aspect start, the bottom line is kill your opponent as quickly as possible. Perhaps the most dynamic and certainly the highest “g” mission, BFM empahasises aircraft control, energy management, fuel management, airspace management, and weapons employment in a very small chunk of airspace with just two correctly configured planes.

In this case, the correctly configured plane is a F-16CG-40-GD with a centerline rack and 4 missile rails… a configuration sure to bring a smile to a Viper pilot’s face. Equipped with a CATM-9x and a T50 ACMI pod, this jet is ready for a mission that will provide a digital 3D recreation that can be viewed from any angle or perspective. 494 also carries standard Chaff and Flares and although loaded – it’s always loaded – the gun is safe with a holdback tool.

Also of note is the very non-standard markings on 494... the tail stripe and checkerboard pattern is a historic homage to the squadron's earlier makings in the Korean Conflict.

Any Fighter Studios print can be customized with different squadron marking, different store configurations, names on the nose or canopy rail. To get yours started, click Personalized Print for more information or click Email with questions.
