Originally formed at RAF Ikeja in Nigeria and initially operational with Spitfire Mk V's flying with the RAF as Free Belgian Forces, No. 349 Squadron became NATO's first operational F-16 squadron. They reached IOC at Beauvechain AB in May 1980. They maintained a 15 minute QRA from Beauvechain and later from Kleine-Brogel when they moved in 1996. No. 349 eventually gained an Air-to-Ground mission in addition to their Air-to-Air duties and upgraded their jets to MLU Block 20 standard in 1998.

FA-70, which began life as a Block 15H jet, is shown in MLU trim adorned with the squadron's 70's anniversary celebratory paint scheme. She carries an Air-to-Air configuration with a CATM-9M on station 1 and an AMD on station 9, a pair of pylons on stations 3 and 7, and a 300 gallon external fuel tank on station 5.
